GA4 Tip #1 – Create GA4 account

How to create a GA4 account for a new website

This guide is for you if you set up a GA4 account for a brand new website and you don’t have any Universal Analytics account. If you already have an account and want to create a GA4 property start with Step 1B.

Step 1A:

You will need Google email (Gmail, Gsuite) for this. Log in to your account and open: https://analytics.google.com/.

Click on “Start Measuring” and fill in the data in three steps:

  1. Account setup
  2. Property setup
  3. Business information (you don’t have to fill in anything)

Step 1B:

To create a GA4 property, open the classic Google Analytics (Universal Analytics) of your website. In the admin section, click to create a new property in the Property section. The system automatically navigates you to create GA4. Fill in the necessary settings and create a Property.

Step 2:

Each GA4 account consists of three levels:

  1. Account
  2. Property
  3. Data stream

We have created the first two. Now it’s time to make a Data stream for our website or application. One Property can also have several Data Streams.

After creating the Data Stream, the Measurement ID in G-XXX format appears. We will use this ID when implementing GA4 code on the website via Google Tag Manager (GTM) or via HTML code implemented directly on the website. We recommend GTM.

How to create a GA4 account if we already have Universal Analytics

To create a GA4 account, we open the classic Google Analytics of our e-shop. In the admin section, click to create a new property in the Property section. The system automatically navigates us to create GA4. We fill in the necessary settings and create an account. After creating an account in the Admin section in the Data Streams section, we find the so-called Measurement ID. We will copy this ID and use it when deploying GA4 via GTM.
